At West Yarner/ Seale Hayne we put great emphasis on Teaching PSHE from the moment the children arrive on the school grounds to the time they leave the premises, as we believe that high quality PSHE education has a lifelong impact on both academic and non-academic outcomes for pupils, particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. The school is following PSHE association guidance to deliver the best possible outcomes for the children. We teach PSHE through formal lessons and in a variety of discreet ways.
Our children are encouraged to play a positive role in contributing to the life of the school and the wider community and in so doing, helps them to develop their sense of self-worth. We teach our children how society is organised and governed and we ensure that they are positive and active members of a democratic society. Throughout the lessons and special differentiated activities, our children develop their skills of showing respect for others, being independent and responsible members of the school community and developing self-confidence and self-esteem. When the children leave our school, we want them to be happy, confident learners with a clear understanding of how to keep themselves physically and mentally healthy. Progressing through the school, our children are learning to understand their own personal, social and emotional needs. They grow in confidence to independently seek support when needed. We also put great emphasis on the teaching of British Values, when the children are learning about their rights and responsibilities and to appreciate what it means to be a positive member of a diverse, multicultural society; making cross curricular links with RE. We take part in national events such as Healthy Eating Week, Anti-bullying Week and Pride month. These exciting and active events enhance learning and understanding of what constitutes a healthy lifestyle and healthy relationships with our peers.
