THE SCHOOL

 

On Track Education Services was established by a team of SEN teachers in 2004. We now have nine independent special schools, and additional support services, around the country for young people with a range of diverse special educational needs. At On Track Education, we believe in empowering young minds to reach their full potential and thrive in an ever-changing world. 

 

Our Wisbech school is an independent DfE registered, co-educational day school providing specialist education for students aged 11-16. We offer boys and girls with a range of special educational needs and diagnosis of communication difficulties, challenging behaviour, social, emotional and mental health difficulties and more complex needs, an opportunity to flourish in a more bespoke and individualised environment.

The school is in the process of opening a secondary school site at Barnwell, near Oundle, for primary age pupils.

This is a new role within the senior leadership team. You will be based at the Wisbech school initially, but will be required to work across the Wisbech and Barnwell sites, once it is open in 2026.

THE JOB

 

The SENCO will:

·       Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, following all school policies including the staff code of conduct.

·       Contribute to the ongoing development of the special educational needs (SEN) policy and provision in the school

·       Be responsible for day-to-day operations of the SEN policy and co-ordination of specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN or a disability

·       Manage the school’s EHCP responsibilities, leading on the review process

·       Maintain an accurate SEND register and provision map

·       Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies

THE PERSON

 

·         Knowledge and understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and its effective implementation.

·         Degree or equivalent

·         Qualified teacher status is an advantage

·         Able to establish and develop good relationships with all involved in the school

·         An interest in supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning

SALARY:

 

Full-time salary £35,585 - £50,845 per annum dependent on qualifications and experience.  This is the actual salary you will receive as you will be paid all year round including the school holidays. WORKING HOURS:

 

Full-time is 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

On Track Wisbech

On Track Education Wisbech is a place where young people aged 11–16 are seen, heard and fully supported. As a DFE-registered, co-educational, independent day school, we specialise in working with students who benefit from a more personalised and nurturing approach to education. Many of our pupils have diagnoses including communication difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, challenging behaviour, or more complex requirements, and we’re here to help them flourish.

The role

You will play a key part in helping pupils re-engage with learning, build confidence, and make meaningful progress. Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, delivering and evidencing parts of individual learning programmes 1:1 or in small groups
  • Working with pupils 1-2-1 off the school site on intervention days
  • Maintaining an awareness of safeguarding and making this a priority, reporting all concerns promptly
  • Implementing strategies to support pupils with Special Educational Needs to access learning throughout the school day, building rapport and being a trusted adult
  • Providing specific and targeted support, depending on individual pupil needs, ensuring safety whilst supporting access to learning activities.
  • Encouraging the development of strategies for young people to manage behaviour, anger and frustration.

About you

We’re looking for a dedicated and creative educator with a genuine passion for working with young people. Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • An interest in supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning
  • The ability to effectively and positively manage challenging behaviour
  • Have a good general standard of education (GCSE Grade 4 or equivalent in English and Maths) and IT proficiency
  • Resilience, flexibility and adaptability to change
  • Required to work with pupils 1-2-1 on off-site intervention activities so you must be able to drive and have access to your own car
