Learning Support Assistant
How did you get this role?
I started working for On Track as an LSA in January 2019. I applied after completing a day's agency work and seeing how amazing On Track was and what they had to offer. Since then, my senior management has encouraged me to expand my role and supported my training in my roles, which include an LSA but also an educational visit coordinator, careers lead, child education online protection lead, online safety lead and ICT technician.
What’s your typical working day like?
My role as an LSA is varied, with time spent supporting students in classrooms, creating risk assessments for off-site activities, providing support and guidance around careers lessons, ensuring staff are trained in child online exploitation and ensuring the school's IT equipment is running efficiently.
What’s your favourite thing about working at On Track?
It would have to be the support from my team. My seniors are amazing and always offer support and advice.
How would you describe the team culture?
Our team is incredible; they each advocate for their own roles and responsibilities, which really inspires me in my own areas.
Has there been a moment where you stopped and thought – this is why I’m here?
There have been many times! When I hear our Thrive lead talk about her role, the school and what we have achieved, that always gets me. But also watching Year 11’s leave after watching them grow from their younger years, feeling so supported, to their post-16 provisions, that’s amazing.
What impact do you feel you’ve made on the young people you work with?
I think we all have our own inputs to all the students, but watching them leave in year 11 feeling nurtured and loved is incredible.
What’s your superpower?
Being able to work in a busy, high-paced school while still ensuring my areas of responsibility are being completed to the best of my ability.
How has On Track supported your professional development?
My seniors have always actively encouraged further training, there is always areas for all of us to improve in our job roles and On Track are really supportive of this.
What advice would you give to someone considering applying?
Please be yourself.
What makes On Track different from other places you’ve worked?
The support that’s offered from seniors and the active role the directors take, I’ve never worked in a job where the directors come in and see what’s going on especially not on a regular basis. Penny knows us by name, about our own children and she knows what’s going on within the school which I think is amazing.
Anything else you would want someone to know about working at On Track?
Working for On Track is rewarding and inspiring.
